Kauvery Hospitals, Vadapalani, Chennai, has taken a historic leap in cardiac care with the launch of an Advanced Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) Unit, unveiled in the presence of Padma Bhushan Awardee Mr. R. Sarathkumar.

This milestone marks the introduction of two groundbreaking technologies:

  • CARTO 3D Mapping System – Version 8 (First in Tamil Nadu)

  • CARTOSOUND Intracardiac Echocardiography (ICE) (First in India)

These advanced systems redefine precision, safety, and outcomes in the treatment of complex heart rhythm disorders.

Heart Problems Are Not Just Heart Attacks

A common misconception among the public is that heart attacks are the only major heart problem. In reality, the heart functions as a powerful pump controlled by an intricate electrical system.

When this electrical system malfunctions, it leads to heart rhythm disorders, medically known as arrhythmias.

These advanced systems redefine precision, safety, and outcomes in the treatment of complex heart rhythm disorders.

What Is Cardiac Electrophysiology?

The diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias fall under a specialized branch of cardiology called Cardiac Electrophysiology.

Doctors trained in this field are known as Cardiac Electrophysiologists — often referred to as the “Heart’s Electricians” — as they specialize in identifying and correcting faulty electrical signals within the heart.

Expert Leadership at Kauvery Hospitals

Kauvery Hospitals already houses a dedicated Cardiac Electrophysiology unit led by Dr. Deep Chandh Raja, an internationally trained Cardiac Electrophysiologist.

In January 2026, the hospital further strengthened this unit by installing the latest CARTO 3D Mapping System (Version 8) along with CARTOSOUND ICE, enabling:

Ultra-precise 3D visualization of heart chambers

  • Higher procedural accuracy

  • Enhanced patient safety

  • Reduced radiation exposure

Using this technology, the EP team successfully performed India’s first-of-its-kind procedures on two patients with complex heart rhythm disorders on January 5, 2026

Chennai on the Global Map of Advanced Arrhythmia Care

With the introduction of these technologies for the first time in India:

  • Chennai now stands on the global map for advanced arrhythmia treatment

  • Patients from Sri Lanka, Maldives, Malaysia, Africa, and neighboring regions can seek world-class care locally

  • Indian patients no longer need to travel abroad for such specialized treatments.
